3 Fires Martial Arts Academy was incorporated as a not-for-profit entity in the spring of 2009 and opened up the Main St location after moving from the North Bay Indian Friendship Center.
In 2015, 3 Fires opened a dojo at 406 Lakeshore Dr. This proved to be popular as the dojo grew quickly resulting in a heavy administration burden on the Main St dojo. The dojo was sold to one of our black belts, Andre Leblond in 2019, and that dojo was renamed as Ferris Family Karate and later as Ferris Family Martial Arts.
In 2024, Ferris Family Martial Arts and 3 Fires formed a Martial Arts Alliance where we have agreed to share resources such as lesson plans, equipment and instructors. This alliance will greatly enhance the students' training.
Our North Bay Lineage goes back to the early 1960's when Darrell Couchie, began his studies in Shotokan Karate. During his years of martial arts studies he had the good fortune to find and study under high ranked instructors in Karate, Kung Fu, Tai Chi, and Kali.
