New Class - Capoeira!
3 Fires is pleased to announce that we are now offering classes in the Brazialian martial art, Capoeira. Our instructor, Heather Dabrowski, learned Capoeira while working in Brazil. As with all of our martial arts instructors, she will be continuing her training through the Canadian chapter of Sinhá Bahia de Capoeira an international organization of schools teaching Capoeira.
The classes begin on January 12th, 2012, from 7PM to 8:30PM.
Capoeira utilizes kicks and cartwheels, high flying tricks and fluid floor movements, Capoeira is a Afro-Brazilian art form which combines martial arts, acrobatics, music, movement and culture into a kind of game . It is a dialogue between players - a conversation through movement to percussive Afro Brazilian music. Many historians believe that African slaves in Brazil used Capoeira's dance-like appearance as a way to hide their training of combat and self-defence. But that’s just the start of the story. To really understand Capoeira, you need to experience it for yourself. It is a dynamic martial art and expression of culture that will challenge your body to move in new ways. In a Capoeira class you will improve your strength, Coordination, stamina and flexibility while having so much fun you won’t realize you are working out.

Who are we?
We are a not-for-profit academy who have been teaching martial arts in the North Bay area for over 5 years. Our focus has been offering a physical training program for both the children and the seniors, so this means the age range of our students span from 4 years to 93 years of age.
We also try to involve the students in community support by helping with fund raising, and volunteer work. If you have a cause or a community event requiring volunteer help, please contact us.
We are Volunteers
All of the instructors and assistants in this academy are volunteers. The funding to support this school comes from class fees and funding from various sources. Aside from paying the rent and utilities, any excesses in income are invested back into the facilities, training for the instructors and donations to other charities. What do the volunteers do? Not all volunteers teach classes. Some volunteers help around the school, painting, repairing and cleaning as well as assist in the community outreach where we help other charities and community organizations. How can you volunteer? Drop into the school and meet with one of our instructors who will take your contact information.
